There has been a case mentioned about a movie studio asking for such, but it is unclear whether they complied. There has not (as far as I'm aware) been a single case of a studio asking a service to identify users who DL'd a file that they ask to be removed - for anime or manga. If you want to avoid that hassle, you probably want to stop torrenting, and start using a DDL tracker that has lists for where the files can be downloaded from the major file sharing services. That said, the reality is that most studios will not hassle you, and most of those that do will contact your ISP first, who will send you a note to let you know that if you don't remove the torrent (and by implication the file although they have no way of knowing if you've done that), then they can and probably will turn off your account.
Now, I think what you really wanted to know was, how likely am I to get into trouble for doing it?įirstly let me say that regardless of my education and certifications that none of this is intended as legal advice, and if you get in trouble for anything I've said here it is your own problem. Just to clarify what I think you were REALLY asking - as a couple posts have already said, regardless of what you may have read on various anime or fan forums, it's always illegal based on copyright law unless it is either the studio or a licensed distributor, and then it's almost always a Direct Download.
